Dana

The practice of generosity

All the work of the Del Ray Zen sangha is done by volunteers. Our operations, however, cost money -- $4,500 per year to cover fixed costs such as rent, insurance and license fees. Additional funds are needed for items such as candles, incense and printing.

It is the Zen tradition to present the teachings freely, because they are priceless; in the  tradition we also practice dana, or generosity, by offering money or service. Dana is given from the heart, not as part of a transaction. It supports the sangha, the larger Dharma community, and our own practice.
